The Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru, and the Vice Chancellor of Ebonyi State University, Prof Michael Ugota, have warned students to steer clear of cultism, exam malpractice, and other social vices. The warning was issued during the 28th matriculation ceremony of the university, where 11,500 new students were inducted.
Governor Nwifuru emphasized the importance of focusing on academic pursuits, stating that the state government is committed to providing quality education. Prof Ugota, on his part, assured that his administration has eradicated cultism and exam malpractice in the university, warning students against engaging in such activities.
The Vice Chancellor urged lecturers to prioritize their mission of educating and guiding students without malfeasance, highlighting the importance of integrity in the education system. He also warned students against indecent dressing and seducing lecturers, emphasizing that the era of s*xual harassment and intimidation is over.
In a similar move, the David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences, Uburu, expelled two students for examination misconduct and suspended eight others for stealing. The Vice Chancellor, Prof Jesse Uneke, emphasized the institution’s zero-tolerance policy for anti-social behaviors.
Ebonyi State University has also taken drastic measures against cultism, expelling three students caught with firearms during the Students’ Union Government election. The Vice Chancellor, Prof Michael Awoke, warned that cultism will not be tolerated in the institution.
The crackdown on cultism and exam malpractice is part of the state government’s efforts to promote academic excellence and maintain a safe learning environment.
