EFCC Condemns Unauthorized Use Of Its Uniforms In Skits

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has denounced the unlawful use of its uniforms and other accoutrements in online videos and has sent a severe warning to those who create skits and other content.

The reaction from the anti-graft organization comes after an old spoof called “EFCC and Army Wahala” made its way back online and featured purported EFCC agents acting impolitely.

The EFCC called the play a “caricature” of its operational methods and claimed that it misrepresented the Commission’s work in a statement that was made public.

The agency believes the sketch, which portrays fictitious EFCC personnel intimidating and bullying people, is detrimental to the agency’s credibility.

“The shameful depiction of supposed EFCC operatives terrorizing ‘suspects’ is not only embarrassing but also a clear effort to tarnish the image of the Commission,” the statement read.

The EFCC stressed that its agents are well-trained law enforcement personnel who conduct themselves with decency, respect, and professionalism when dealing with economic and financial crime suspects.

It also recommended against unlawful use of the Commission’s official emblems, such as uniforms and badges, which would contravene operating standards and mislead the public.

The EFCC asked anyone who create skits to be accountable for their work and to avoid exploiting law enforcement insignia without permission.

The agency reaffirmed that such activities not only misrepresent the Commission’s work, but they also undermine public trust in its operations.

The EFCC has previously expressed concerns over the improper usage of its uniforms in skits.

According to the agency, this latest warning demonstrates its dedication to protecting the reputation of its agents in the public eye and making sure that these kinds of deceptions do not undermine public trust.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
