Election 2023: Peter Obi Issues First Comment Following Tinubu’s Victory

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate, has made his first public remark after losing the 2023 election to Bola Tinubu, the APC candidate.

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday afternoon, Obi announced that he would be speaking to both the Nigerian people and the world at large. By using the word “shortly,” he hinted that the address will take place today.

The former governor of Anambra State also commended Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed for holding a news conference in front of a global audience.

In a statement that bears his signature, he wrote: Our Vice presidential candidate Dr. Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed is addressing an international press conference at the Labour Party Headquarters in Abuja. I intend to address Nigerians and the international community shortly. -PO”

The Labour Party won the presidential election, and it will regain its mandate in due course, stated Baba-Ahmed, the party’s vice presidential candidate, in a press conference on Wednesday following Tinubu’s announcement.

He stated that there was no election because the results could not be electronically sent.

In part, Datti said: “It’s our position that the results of the purported election did not meet the minimum standard of elections-Datti Baba-Ahmed, Labour Party Vice Presidential Candidate

“We will continue the struggle and we urge Nigerians to continue to struggle for their rights.

“Irrespective of the low level of confidence that we have in the system, we appeal to Nigerians to move out and vote for the Labour Party in the forthcoming governorship and state assembly elections.

“The Electoral Act 2022 provides that election result shall be electronically transmitted, this was not done it means the election did not hold.”

This is the first time Peter Obi has contested the post of president of Nigeria.
