Elon Musk has chosen to postpone the reopening of Twitter’s “Blue Verified” badge for Twitter after much commotion and confusion.
The head of Twitter announced that he would put the $8 subscription plan on hold until he felt very confident that impersonation would be stopped.
He also mentioned introducing several color checks for organizations that would be distinct from those for people.
In a tweet on Tuesday, Musk said “Holding off the relaunch of Blue Verified until there is high confidence of stopping impersonation. Will probably use different color check for organizations than individuals (sic).”
The earlier launch resulted in fake accounts receiving the blue tick verification badge, forcing the company to temporarily withdraw the subscription model. The $8 plan was scheduled for a relaunch on November 29.
As a result of personification, thousands of similar profiles were suspended, including the one of comic Kathy Griffin, who had two million platform followers.
Since Musk took charge, Twitter has started marking high-profile accounts with different checkmarks and subsequently deactivating them. Although its function was not made apparent, it was thought that the grey checkmark was introduced to set it apart from the blue checkmark, which is available for purchase by anyone.
Musk met with Twitter employees to discuss the launch’s timing before announcing the social media platform.
Musk reportedly talked on the future of bluetick markings in the meeting, according to Verge, which got a hold of the meeting audio.
“Any given social media platform, in my view doesn’t matter what it is, is going to be vulnerable to bots and trolls unless there is some payment barrier to increase the cost of bots and trolls significantly,” He said.
The Verge reported citing the meeting audio that he also informed staff members that Twitter had stopped making layoffs and would start hiring again.
