Former federal legislator Senator Shehu Sani has called on the federal government to launch an impartial investigation into the Central Bank of Nigeria and its temporarily suspended governor, Godwin Emefiele.
Sani, a senator from the 8th Senate, claimed in a statement posted on Twitter on Saturday in response to President Bola Tinubu’s suspension of Emefiele, that the controversial former CBN governor used the institution as a “Automated Teller Machine of the Cabal, a canteen, and cash cow.”
According to PUNCH, on Friday, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu ordered the embattled governor of the nation’s top bank to resign and hand over control to Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate) Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi with immediate effect, pending the outcome of an investigation and the implementation of reforms to the nation’s financial system.
The statement read: “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has suspended the Central Bank Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, CFR, from office with immediate effect.
“This is sequel to the ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy.
“Mr Emefiele has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of the investigation and the reforms.”
The lawmaker’s response was to praise Tinubu for the suspension of Emefiele and the appointment of Shonubi.
He pleaded with the President to see to it that external auditors be hired to look into the apex bank and Emefiele, For the sake of transparency and accountability,
The statement read, “The eviction of Emefiele is commendable. The appointment of Shonubi as acting governor is commendable. But the house cleaning of the CBN can only be done by engaging a team of auditors from outside of the CBN.
“Only they can professionally and thoroughly probe the apex bank and tell the country how the bank was run under Buhari’s Emefiele.
“The CBN was operated as an ATM of the Cabal, a canteen, and cash cow of the parasitic elites of the past administration.”
“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
