Fake HIV Test Kits on the Loose: NAFDAC Sounds Alarm

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) is warning Nigerians about counterfeit and unregistered HIV test kits circulating in the country. These fake kits, specifically the VISITECT HIV Advanced Disease Test Kits, pose significant risks to public health as they haven’t been evaluated or approved by NAFDAC.

The genuine product is manufactured by AccuBio Ltd in Scotland and marketed in Nigeria by Euro Specs International Nigeria Limited, with NAFDAC Registration Number A3-100-153. However, the counterfeit version lists a different manufacturer, Omega Diagnostics Ltd, and carries no NAFDAC registration number.

NAFDAC urges healthcare providers, patients, and the public to exercise caution and vigilance when purchasing medical products. If you suspect a counterfeit product, report it to NAFDAC immediately.
