Fake Medical Doctor Caught In Umuahia

An inquiry revealed that a lady impersonating as a doctor at Echoes of God’s Mercy & Grace Mission Specialist Hospital, which is situated on Finbars Road in Umuahia, Abia State, has been exposed as a fraud, according to ABN TV.

It is reported that Miriam Ugochi Emenike, a former gynecologist who was later elevated to the position of Chief Medical Director (CMD), obtained employment at the hospital by using falsified credentials.

The CEO of the hospital insisted on employing her in 2023 despite staff reservations about her credentials. After several medical malpractice cases involving her were disclosed, her fraudulent actions were exposed.

Emenike is accused of giving patients the wrong drugs in September 2023, which resulted in one patient’s miscarriage and the death of another one.

These occurrences sparked doubts among medical experts at the hospital, prompting them to demand verification of her qualifications.

Whenever confronted, Emenike failed to provide a legitimate medical license. However, instead of being dismissed, she was promoted to CMD, provoking fury among the hospital’s medical personnel.

The facility’s physicians collectively resigned in protest, stating that continuing to have an unfit person in a leadership position could endanger patient lives and expose licensed physicians to legal risks.

The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) looked into Emenike’s qualifications after receiving a petition from worried medical professionals.

Her name was missing from the official list of certified medical practitioners, according to their findings. She had also falsely assumed a medical identity, as evidenced by the fact that the folio number she claimed for employment belonged to another doctor.

Emenike has consequently been accused of impersonation, forgery, and acquiring a job by deceptive means.

Medical experts and other witnesses are present during her trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

In my opinion, the hospital should be held accountable since the CEO recruited her despite staff concerns about her skills and went on to elevate her to CMD not withstanding multiple negative incidents.
