No fewer than four individuals were confirmed d3ad and several others injured in the Ido-Ayegunle community, located in Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State, after an assault by unidentified gunmen.
The assailants invaded the town on Thursday evening, June 19, 2025, armed with firearms, broken bottles, machetes, knives, and other lethal weapons.
The State Police Command’s spokesperson, Zachariah Abiodun, who verified the incident in Osogbo, stated that relative tranquility had been reestablished in the area.
According to him, the state’s Commissioner of Police visited the location for a firsthand evaluation and to ensure the maintenance of peace and order.
When questioned about arrests, Abiodun noted that no suspects had been apprehended as of the time of this report but promised that the culprits would be identified and prosecuted.
He further stated that security forces had been stationed in the affected area to preserve calm.
“The violence was a result of an ongoing boundary tussle between the Esa-Oke and Ido Aiyegunle communities. The problem erupted as a result of ongoing boundary dispute between Esa-Oke and Ido Aiyegunle community,” the PPRO stated.
“I have spoken with the Divisional Police Officer. When we got information about the attack, we moved in swiftly. By the time we got there, houses have been burnt.
“Also, many lives have been lost. When the perpetrators sighted the police, they fled into the bush. Our personnel heard voices coming from one of the wells in the town but rescue efforts was delayed and four of the people brought out from the well were confirmed dead at the hospital.
“We have our personnel in the town and on ground to secure the peace.”
Meanwhile, an eyewitness who spoke to Nigerian Tribune suggested that the attack might be linked to the unresolved land dispute between the Ido-Ayegunle and Esa-Oke communities. Music concert tickets
The eyewitness, named Adebayo Olaide, claimed that the attackers originated from the Esa-Oke community to execute the assault.
He stated that, in addition to k!lling victims, numerous others suffered severe injuries during the attack, characterized by extreme brutality and a disregard for human life.
Some residents were reportedly kidnapped, others thrown into a well, and many homes were set ablaze by the hoodlums, causing numerous residents to flee the community in search of safety.
