French Football Legend Condemns Racist Chant By Argentina Players

Hugo Lloris, a French football star, has condemned the notorious racist song that some Argentina players sung in the aftermath of their Copa America victory over Colombia.

Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez shared a video on social media that looked to show him and some of his teammates singing along to a song with ‘racist and discriminatory words.’

Fernandez is now facing Premier League punishments, and Chelsea is pursuing an internal disciplinary procedure.

Now, World Cup-winning captain and goalie Lloris has termed the song ‘a proper attack on French people’ urging the Albiceleste to set a better example for young supporters.

“They [Argentina] are the face of football right now, in South America, in the world. They deserve a lot of credit for what they have done on the field for the last four or five years,” Lloris said.

“It was a proper attack on the French people, especially for the French people who have some African origin and family.”

“It doesn’t matter if you are in a moment of euphoria because you have won an important trophy,” Lloris said. “It demands even more responsibility when you are a winner.

“You don’t want to hear or see this kind of thing in football. We all stand against discrimination and racism.

“I just think and hope it is a mistake. We all make mistakes sometimes and hopefully, they will learn from it.”

Fernandez has subsequently apologised for the video, stating that he was overcome with ‘euphoria’ after winning the title, but that the song’s lyrics and sentiments ‘do not reflect my values or my character’.

The cry appears to state that French footballers are from Angola or have a ‘Nigerian’ mother and a ‘Cameroonian’ father.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
