Actress and comedian Chioma Omeruah, better known by her stage name Chigul, has talked candidly about how her failed marriage altered her outlook on relationships and taught her the value of self-awareness and healing.
The performer discussed life after divorce in an episode of the Transparent podcast, offering advice on relationships, personal development, and emotional healing.
Despite societal expectations regarding age, marriage, and being single, Chigul, who recently turned 50, said she still feels young and content. She also talked about the stigma that divorced women frequently face and the pressure that many people experience to follow conventional marriage timelines.
“Two shattered people cannot come together and make a home,” she said.
She explained that people are raised differently and bring different experiences and perspectives into relationships, making self work and personal growth essential for healthy partnerships.
“When we are broken, we hurt ourselves and others,” she said, adding that marriage is not the responsibility of one person but requires commitment, effort and emotional maturity from both partners.
It takes two mature and committed individuals to make a marriage work, and while our journey had its challenges, I am truly happy that Chigul has long moved on and is doing great for herself. Her growth and well-being are what matter most, and I sincerely wish her continued happiness and success in life.
