Popular Nollywood actor and philanthropist Zubby Michael has formally picked up his African Democratic Congress (ADC) membership form in Ozobulu, Anambra State, signaling his entry into the race for the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections. The move, witnessed by party faithful and community leaders on Friday, ends months of speculation about his political ambitions.
The actor, born Azubuike Michael Egwu, registered at the ward level in line with ADC’s strict constitutional requirement that all memberships must begin at designated wards before a validated party card is issued. Party officials at the venue emphasized that ward-level registration remains the only recognized method, stressing that any sign-up at zonal or national offices is considered irregular and invalid. Michael complied with the process, receiving cheers from supporters who thronged the local secretariat.
Addressing a crowd of fans turned political backers, Michael said his decision was driven by a desire to give Ikwuano/Umumba and surrounding communities “a louder voice” in Abuja. “We’ve entertained the people; now it’s time to empower them,” he declared. He pledged to focus on youth employment, creative industry infrastructure, and improved federal projects for his constituency if elected.
ADC stakeholders present described his defection as a major boost for the party’s grassroots mobilization in Anambra South. The party has been flagging off registration committees across states, with national officers insisting that every new member must go through their ward. Michael’s high-profile entry is expected to attract younger voters and Nollywood fans to the party’s fold as it prepares for the March 27, 2026 deadline for sale and submission of nomination forms.
The actor’s political move comes as the ADC ramps up nationwide preparations, with screening of aspirants scheduled for March 30–31, 2026. While Michael has not yet purchased the House of Representatives nomination form, picking the membership form is the mandatory first step. Party leaders say they welcome entertainers and professionals but will enforce due process without exception.
With cameras now trailing him from film sets to political turf, Zubby Michael’s crossover sets the stage for a closely watched contest. Whether star power translates to votes in 2027 remains to be seen, but his Ozobulu outing has already redrawn the early battle lines for the federal constituency seat.
