The Federal Road Safety Corps has advised motorists traveling on the Abuja–Kaduna Highway to use the Kachia–Bwari alternative route due to heavy traffic congestion along the main corridor. The advisory comes ahead of Eid al-Kabir, when movement between the two cities typically spikes.
FRSC said traffic build-up has been recorded in several sections of the highway as travelers begin moving for the holiday. Corps officials attributed the congestion to increased vehicle volume, road repairs in some areas, and the usual pre-festivity rush.
The Kachia–Bwari route, which links Abuja to Kaduna through Niger and Kaduna states, is being recommended to ease pressure on the main highway. FRSC patrol teams have been deployed to guide drivers and ensure smooth flow on the alternative road.
Officials urged motorists to obey traffic rules, avoid overloading, and refrain from night travel. They also warned against reckless overtaking and driving under the influence, noting that accident risks rise during periods of heavy traffic.
FRSC said it is working with sister agencies to manage the situation and provide updates on road conditions. Travelers have been encouraged to call the FRSC toll-free line for real-time information before embarking on their journey.
The Corps extended Eid greetings to Muslims and appealed for patience and cooperation from all road users. It stressed that adherence to safety guidelines will help reduce crashes and ensure a hitch-free celebration for everyone traveling during the period.
