Gunmen Murder 70-Year-Old Businesswoman

A 70-year-old businesswoman named Alhaja Kadijat Olamilekan Falekulo has been murdered in Ondo State by unidentified gunmen.

The incident, according to a report by the state-run publication, happened this week in Ondo town’s Sabo neighbourhood.

According to reports, the murderers pretended to be food shoppers when they entered her home.

The 97-year-old mother of the deceased claimed that when her daughter went outside to help the gunmen because she believed they wanted to buy food, they pulled out a cutlass and struck her on the neck.

In order to protect her daughter, the mother of the dead, who wished to remain anonymous, said that she begged the assassins to spare her daughter’s life but they killed her. They allegedly broke into her room later and stole her jewellery, according to her.

“I saw the people when they came and I begged them to kill me and let my daughter go but they insisted that it was Alhaja they wanted to kill and they cut off her neck and set her room ablaze,” she said.

Another neighbour, Mrs Gladys Fasominu, spoke about the matter that the late Alhaja had told her last week that someone had come to her house and taken her gold and beads.

“I was called to come and carry Alhaja to the hospital, on getting there I saw Alhaja in the pool of her own blood in her room. We can’t explain how she was killed now because after killing her they wet the room with petrol and set it on fire. It was the smoke that woke other people in the house up only what we can think of for now is to pack her lifeless body to the morgue,” she explained.

Later, the incident was reported to the divisional police station in Fagun.

The body was taken from the residence to the morgue by the police.
