Hon. Agbeyangi Dismisses Tribal Propaganda, Affirms “ Face of Itire-Ikate” Was Free, Fair, And Merit-Based

Leader of the House, Itire–Ikate LCDA, Hon. Olaoluwa Andrew Agbeyangi, has strongly debunked claims of ethnic bias in the just-concluded “Face of Itire-Ikate” beauty pageant, describing the allegations as childish, malicious, and a deliberate attempt by tribal jingoists to destabilize the council ahead of the forthcoming elections.

Speaking at the 2026 Children’s Day Celebration hosted by the Executive Chairman, Hon. Oluwafemi Daniel Odunayo, Hon. Agbeyangi, who served as one of the judges, said the competition was the most transparent and professionally organized edition yet. The panel of judges comprised respected Yoruba leaders: Hon. Agbeyangi Olaoluwa Andrew, Hon. Mrs. Ajaja Bukola, Hon. Fancy Babatunde Azeez, Ben Flashes, and Kubra Emokpaire.

“Miss Kalu Favour emerged winner because she outperformed every other contestant on merit, talent, poise, and presentation. There was no rigging, no ethnic quota, no backroom deal. Period,” Hon. Agbeyangi stated. He stressed that merit has no tribe and competence must always outweigh ethnicity in governance and public life.

The Leader of the House cautioned constituents against using tribal sentiments to orchestrate division, warning that such rhetoric is unconstitutional and a dangerous trend capable of destroying the peace Itire–Ikate has enjoyed for years. He noted that Itire–Ikate LCDA remains a model of unity, with over 50% of voters being indigenous Yoruba and the rest proud Nigerians from Arewa, Igbo, Niger-Delta, and other communities who vote, work, and live together.

Hon. Agbeyangi commended the Executive Chairman for his detribalized leadership style, noting that appointments in the administration are based on competence and delivery, not ethnic origin. He pointed out that Hon. Odunayo’s inclusion of qualified Nigerians, regardless of tribe, reflects the spirit of the Nigerian Constitution and the values of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

He further declared that the annual “Face of Itire-Ikate” pageant, instituted by Hon. Odunayo, was conceived purely for youth development, talent discovery, and empowerment. The exercise, he said, must be protected from those who seek to inject poison into the council’s harmony for selfish political gain.

Addressing the APC family in Itire–Ikate, Hon. Agbeyangi urged members to remain united and focused. “The opposition is watching, waiting to exploit any crack. We must not give them one. APC in Itire–Ikate is prepared to face opponents squarely, campaign on records of performance, and win every election,” he declared.

He concluded with a firm warning to purveyors of ethnic propaganda: “This reckless tribal incitement is a direct threat to public peace and to the unity of APC in Itire–Ikate. Those fanning these flames will be exposed and held accountable.
