In-drive Rider Arrested Over Alleged Abduction Of Female Passenger

The Onipanu Divisional Headquarters, part of the Ogun State Police Command, has detained a ride-share operator, Olayemi Yusuf ‘m’ (30 years old), for reportedly kidnapping a woman who was his passenger.

The individual, who faced an assault from an enraged crowd, is presently held by law enforcement as the inquiry into the matter has begun.

Verifying the event, CSP Omolola Odutola, the command’s spokesperson, stated,
‘’On 24 March 2025, at about 1500hrs, officers received information about a suspicious vehicle along Ilogbo Road, Ojuore, Ogun State. A swift police response led to the rescue of the victim, Coutroupis Peace ‘f’ (22 years old) of No. 17 Fisher Street, Cement Bus Stop, Lagos.

Preliminary investigation revealed the victim booked a ride through an online car service from Lekki, Lagos, to Off Freedom Way, Lekki. However, during the journey, the driver claimed his navigation system malfunctioned and deviated from the intended route. He subsequently overpowered the victim and restrained her hands with two plastic tyre clips.

On arrival at Omowo Filling Station along Ilogbo road, Ota, the victim raised alarm, drawing the attention of passersby, who intervened and attacked the suspect before police officers arrived at the scene.’’

Odutola noted that both the victim and the accused were escorted to the police facility, with the accused being provided medical care due to wounds received during the crowd’s assault.

She added that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, encourages the community to refrain from acting as vigilantes and implores residents to notify the authorities of any dubious behavior for appropriate investigation and lawful measures.
