The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for governor of Ogun State, Ladi Adebutu, and his running mate have been left off of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) final list of contenders for the 2027 governorship.
The commission’s final list for the state does not include Isa Pantami, who just won a new PDP governorship primary in Gombe state.
There are 16 candidates for governor in the Gombe state list and 13 in the Ogun state final list, but neither list has a PDP candidate.
The Ogun list, which names Solomon Adeola as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governor and Kudirat Balogun as his running mate, does not include Adebutu or his deputy.
According to the list, Jamil Gwamna is the APC’s candidate for governor of Gombe, with Balah Adams as his running mate.
The lists include the names, political affiliations, running partners, ages, genders, credentials, and, if relevant, comments of the candidates.
Amidst political developments surrounding the PDP governorship tickets in the two states, Adebutu and Pantami are not on the lists.
Adebutu had been the PDP’s governorship candidate in Ogun, but Pantami recently emerged as the party’s candidate in Gombe after a new primary.
The two candidates’ and their running mates’ absence from the lists is not explained in the documents.
The final list of candidates for governor of Rivers State was not available alongside those for other states, according to an examination of INEC’s website.
It was unclear if the commission intended to publish the Rivers list separately or if it had not yet been uploaded.
It remains unclear whether the omissions were deliberate or the result of an error by INEC. The Commission has yet to provide an explanation, so it would be premature to draw conclusions. INEC is expected to clarify the matter and, if the omissions were accidental, correct the lists accordingly.
