Iran Views Trump’s Win As An Opportunity To Reconsider The “Wrong Policies” Of The Past
Iran said today that the US should reconsider its previous “wrong policies” in light of Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential election.
Trump had maintained a “maximum pressure” campaign on Iran throughout his first term and is expected to return to the White House in January after defeating US Vice President Kamala Harris in Tuesday’s election.
State news agency IRNA cited Esmaeil Baghaei, the spokesman for the foreign ministry, as saying, “We have very bitter experiences with the policies and approaches of different US governments in the past.” He went on to say that Trump’s victory provided an opportunity “to review previous wrong policies.”
Tensions between Iran and the United States escalated during Trump’s first term from 2017 to 2021, although they have been enemies since the Islamic Revolution of 1979, which toppled the Shah supported by the West.
Iran disregarded the US election as meaningless until Wednesday when Trump was proclaimed the victor. According to official spokesman Fatemeh Mohajerani, “the general policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States are fixed.”
“It makes no difference who wins the presidency. Plans have already been established to ensure that people’s means of subsistence remain unchanged,” she continued.

Trump placed severe penalties on the Islamic Republic and unilaterally pulled out of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal during his first term in office.
During the Trump administration, the United States murdered Qasem Soleimani, a general in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, in an airstrike on the Baghdad airport in 2020.
