Maria Fadairo, Senior Public Affairs Officer of the service, announced this in a statement on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, noting that the incident might have stemmed from carelessness.

“The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Ejigbo Station, received a distress call over the weekend reporting an individual trapped inside a well,” the statement read.

“The rescue team promptly mobilized and reached the location at House 12, Aiyeola Street, off Governor Road, Molad Bus Stop, Ikotun, within the Ikotun-Igando LCDA, Lagos.

“On arrival, it was found that a male adult, roughly 56 years old, had become stuck while working inside a well estimated to be 80 feet deep.

“The incident took place at the back of a bungalow consisting of eight rooms of varying sizes, located on a property spanning approximately 648 square meters.

“The victim was successfully extracted alive through the concerted efforts of the firefighters.

“Initial investigations indicate that the incident may have resulted from negligence.

“The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, reiterated the importance of notifying the agency whenever hazardous jobs are to be undertaken. This will allows for proper safety protocols, including standby duty, to prevent life-threatening situations.”

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
