After an illustrious career representing Argentina, the football icon Lionel Messi has officially announced his retirement from international play.
The 39-year-old legend has made a total of 207 appearances for his country, leading Argentina to victory in the 2022 FIFA World Cup and finishing as a runner-up in both 2014 and 2026. He also secured two Copa América titles during his tenure.
In a heartfelt statement, Messi expressed, “Making this decision was incredibly difficult – it still is – but I believe the moment has arrived. I want you to know that I always gave my best, not just in recent years when we achieved great success, but throughout my entire career. I fought with all I had on the field to bring happiness to our fans and to make Argentina proud through football.
“Time waits for no one, and as new chapters begin, I feel it’s the right time to step away. I love being part of the national team, and I will forever cherish those moments. I’ve poured everything into this journey; there’s nothing left to give. Fortunately, talented young players are emerging, and they deserve the opportunity to carry this legacy forward.”
His departure marks the end of an era, and fans worldwide will deeply miss witnessing Messi’s extraordinary talent and dedication on the pitch. His impact on international football has been nothing short of inspirational. We wish him all the best in his future pursuits and hope he continues to inspire through his remarkable legacy.
Live with Purpose, Love with Passion. Remember to be happy
