LP plans review of presidential campaign council, to remove TUC, NLC presidents

The Labour Party (LP) says it will review the list of members for its presidential campaign council.

Julius Abure, LP national chairman, announced the development on Thursday while reading a communique at the end of the party’s expanded national working committee (NWC) meeting, held in Abuja.

The campaign council list has generated mixed reactions, with concerns raised over the geopolitical distribution of its membership, “questionable names”, as well as the inclusion of members of labour unions.

Speaking on Thursday, Abure said it was an error for presidents of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) to be on the campaign council.

“It is on the strength of the above that the presidential campaign council has been duly announced with representation across all states, tribes and faith,” NAN quoted him as saying.

“Labour Party hereby announces the endorsement of the campaign council. However, we acknowledge some omissions and misplacement of some names in the council.

“This will be corrected and a supplementary list released before the inauguration of the council.

“Also corrected is the erroneous inclusion of Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress members in the campaign list.”

According to the communique, the party is also working on efforts to ensure victory in the general election.

“As of the moment, we are consolidating the momentum that will help us establish a new Nigeria come May 29, 2023,” he said.

“We also further make it clear that Labour Party enjoys a robust relationship with the new campaign council.”

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
