Man Kills His Friend For Refusing To Share His Beer

Tanaka Maringire, a 26-year-old man, killed his friend after he refused to share a beer, in a terrible episode that has devastated their town.

The man from the Chief Chikwanda region of Masvingo, Zimbabwe, was hauled before the Masvingo Magistrates Court on murder charges under Section 47 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act.

The incident happened on May 11, 2024. According to the charges, Maringire was drinking beer at a pub in Masvingo’s Rumwanda business centre with the now-deceased Jefrees Mukonzi and friends Tichaona Makuvisa and Philmon Mugovera.

Makonzi had bought beer and shared it with Maringire. However, as the beer supply ran out, Makonzi refused to continue sharing, which infuriated Maringire. To prevent additional disputes, Maringire began playing snooker.

Tichaona Makuvisa accidentally touched the snooker table, provoking Maringire. In retaliation, Maringire jabbed Makuvisa with a cuestick. Makonzi attempted to intervene and diffuse the conflict, but this only enraged Maringire.

In a flash of rage, Maringire took a plank from a broken chair and hit Makonzi on the forehead three times. Following the attack, Makonzi exited the pub, complaining of acute pain in his head and arm. He eventually slumped outside the property.

Makonzi’s friends instantly came to his aid, attempting to help him return home. However, he collapsed again soon after.

Despite their attempts to revive him with water, he remained unconscious. His mother was then notified, and she rushed him to Chipinda Clinic.

He was then transported to Masvingo Provincial Hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival. Maringire has been remanded in detention, and the case has been adjourned until May 29, 2024.

The judicial hearings are likely to shed additional light on the incident and assess Maringire’s guilt in the death of Jefrees Mukonzi.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
