Manchester United Speaks Following Antony’s Abuse Allegations

Manchester United have spoken out in response to accusations of domestic abuse made against Brazilian winger Antony.

The 23-year-old winger was cut from the Brazil team on Monday night, only days after Mason Greenwood departed United on loan for Getafe as the result of a six-month club inquiry.

Gabriela Cavallin, his ex-girlfriend, said that Antony assaulted her when she was pregnant, damaged her breast implant, cut her finger on a glass, and threatened to throw her out of a moving car. Antony has, however, refuted these allegations.

Manchester United released a statement so as to indicate that the club is aware of the 23-year-old’s allegations.

“Manchester United acknowledges the allegations made against Antony and notes that the Police are conducting enquiries,’ a club statement read.

“Pending further information, the club will be making no further comments.

“As a club, we are taking this matter seriously, with consideration of the impact of these allegations and subsequent reporting will have on survivors of abuse.”

Given that there is no mention of a ban in Man United’s statement, Antony is expected to continue playing for the team.

According to Mail Sport, Man United is awaiting the results of the Greater Manchester Police inquiry, and today the Professional Footballers’ Association spoke with the team.

In a statement he issued in June, Antony claimed that his ex-girlfriend had accused him falsely of domestic abuse.

In a recent statement, the Brazilian acknowledged that his relationship with his ex-partner had been “tumultuous,” but he said he “never committed any physical aggression.”
