Motherhood: Choosing The Best Parenting Style: Managerial Vs Consulting 8

Hello Great Mothers!

Parenting styles refer to the many ways and techniques we deploy to raise our children. While there are different parenting styles, they are commonly divided into two categories: managerial and consultative.

Mothers who use the management parenting style establish clear rules, expectations, and boundaries, emphasizing discipline, routine, and strong parental control to promote stability and security. They make sure their children understand their responsibilities and the repercussions of their conduct.

In contrast, mothers who practice consultative parenting prioritize guidance over direction. They encourage open communication, critical thinking, and decision-making, and these attributes help to develop independence and self-reliance in their children. It also assists them in developing problem-solving abilities and confidence.

It was stated in my previous article that successful parenting involves combining managerial and consultative methods. This balanced approach fosters well-rounded development in children.
The following approaches constitute the integrated Managerial and Consultative Parenting Style;

Structured Guidance and Independence
This approach entails setting clear and structured rules and expectations while also promoting freedom and involving children in decision-making. For example, You set homework and house chores, but allow them to choose their extracurricular activities. This approach promotes stability and independence.

Adapting to Developmental Stages
We must adopt the right parenting style at different stages of our children’s growth because their needs and capabilities evolve as they grow. A more managerial approach may be used to establish routines and boundaries at the early childhood stage.

However, as children grow into adolescence, adopting the consultative style can help them develop the skills needed to navigate more complex social and academic challenges.

Providing active support and guidance.
Being actively involved in our children’s lives is important. This entails being available for discussions, offering advice, and providing assistance as the need arises.

Parenting is a dynamic, ever-changing process that necessitates flexibility and adaptability.
This hybrid strategy allows parents to effectively support their children’s growth, assisting them in maturing into responsible, well-rounded individuals.

Are you a consultant or a manager or the two, in your parenting approach? How has it affected you Share your thoughts.
