Motherhood: Love Your Child, Don’t Spoil Your Child (8)

Hello Great Mothers!

As mothers, we detest seeing our children unhappy, and so we tend to always cave into their demands. This seems much easier for us than saying no.

To every mother, children are precious, and so we love them so much. It is right we do, but not to the extent of spoiling them.

Do you love your children that you do not want them to cry, so you over-pamper them? You love them, you do not want them to lack anything, and so you give them whatever they want. You love them, you do not want them to go through any form of stress, so, you do not teach them, and have them do any house chores. You do it or have someone do it for them. You don’t even discipline your child when they are wrong….The list is endless… Does this sound like you?
If it does, you are spoiling your child.

It is good to show our children that we love them through our actions. It is good to appreciate them and praise them when they have done well. It is good for their growth and development. However, prolonged praising and pampering might be detrimental: Children who are shielded from difficult situations have fewer possibilities to develop resilience. Children who are not disciplined, and always have their ways, grow up to be rude and self-centered.

We can unintentionally overindulge our kids out of affection for them. We are their mothers, God entrusted them to us to care, discipline, teach, and nurture them to grow up to be well-balanced adults.

In my previous article, I talked about some of our actions that could spoil our kids. Others will be discussed in my next article.
