Motherhood: Tips For Raising Emotionally Intelligent Kids (12)

Hello Great Mothers!

According to LuceroSpeaks.com, emotional intelligence, or EQ, is often referred to as a “secret superpower.” Daniel Goleman, the pioneer of Emotional Intelligence, suggests that EQ maybe even more important in life than IQ (Intelligence Quotient), which is typically associated with academic performance.

While IQ is essential for academic excellence, Emotional Intelligence (EQ) is key to building and maintaining strong relationships. EQ enables individuals to manage their own and others’ emotions, develop empathy, communicate effectively, resolve conflicts, and exhibit strong leadership skills.

This means that our children cannot achieve true success with IQ alone; they also need well-developed EQ skills. Therefore, both IQ and EQ contribute to success in life. Previous articles have covered the development of Emotional Intelligence, and we will now focus on the benefits of nurturing these skills in our children.

Higher Self-Awareness and Self-Control
Emotional Intelligence helps children gain a deeper understanding of their own emotions and those of others, allowing them to regulate their feelings. When faced with anxiety, anger, frustration, or sadness, instead of reacting impulsively, they learn to manage these emotions constructively and respond appropriately.

This strengthens their decision-making abilities, building self-confidence and self-worth. Self-worth and self-awareness are essential for self-discovery, enabling children to understand their values, strengths, and identity.

These qualities help them make independent decisions rather than succumbing to peer pressure or following the crowd. Furthermore, this personal sense of identity fosters self-discipline, keeping them focused on their goals.

Emotional intelligence skills are vital for attaining and maintaining success in every area of life. As such, we are encouraged to incorporate these skills into our children’s upbringing as they grow.

We don’t need to be perfect mothers to raise our children, but with God’s guidance, genuine love, patience, and understanding, we can nurture children who will positively impact the world.

Bye!
