Corps members posted to Ekiti State are in for a major upgrade.
The Ekiti State Government has commenced a massive renovation and infrastructural upgrade of the *National Youth Service Corps Orientation Camp in Emure-Ise-Orun*, with officials promising to deliver one of the best NYSC facilities in Nigeria within two months.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji, who had earlier pledged to revamp the camp, has rolled out 19 simultaneous projects aimed at transforming the decades-old facility.
During an inspection tour on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Youth Development, *Gold Adedayo*, said the renovation reflects the Oyebanji administration’s commitment to youth welfare.
“The massive renovation of this facility is a demonstration of the Governor Oyebanji administration’s commitment to youth development. The upgrade, upon completion, will transform the camp into one of the best NYSC orientation facilities in the country,” Adedayo said.
Projects inspected include:
– Gatehouse and Registration Centre
– 5 Male and 7 Female Hostels
– Dining Hall, Kitchen and Stores
– Perimeter Fence
– NYSC State Coordinator’s Lodge
The Commissioner expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work and commended contractors for sticking to schedule.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Projects, *Olubunmi Talabi*, said all projects are being executed simultaneously and supervised by his bureau to meet the governor’s deadline.
He disclosed that *solar lighting solutions* will be installed across all buildings to improve illumination, security, and the overall experience of corps members and officials.
In line with the state’s local content policy, Talabi added that local contractors and artisans were engaged for the work. He expressed optimism that the entire renovation will be completed *within two months*, allowing corps members to resume camp activities as scheduled.
“These projects will give the camp a modern outlook and provide a more conducive environment for corps members during orientation programmes in the state,” Talabi said.
The NYSC State Coordinator, *Adeola Ige*, recalled the challenges previously faced at the camp and praised Governor Oyebanji for the intervention, saying the impact of the renovation would be “enormous” for corps members serving in the state.
The Emure-Ise-Orun camp has long struggled with dilapidated hostels, poor lighting, and overstretched facilities. With this upgrade, Ekiti joins a growing list of states investing in better welfare for corps members.
By the next orientation batch, new corps members in Ekiti can expect modern hostels, better security, steady lighting, and improved camp amenities — a move officials say is part of a broader push to make Ekiti a top destination for youth service.
