The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has announced that it no longer owes the Super Falcons, the senior female football squad.
The NFF President, Ibrahim Gusau, made this known on Thursday, August 24, in Abuja, after being asked to appear before the House ad-hoc committee.
The committee was also informed that the NFF paid the Super Falcons’ match bonuses and allowances last Friday.
When the ad hoc committee’s chairman, Blessing Oni, inquired about unpaid allowances for the Super Falcons in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Gusau explained that no funding was released for participation but revealed that in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup hosted by Australia and New Zealand, $960,000 was given to all 32 qualifying countries.
According to him, the FIFA preparation funds were to be utilized by participating countries to prepare their teams for the World Cup.

“We can’t use this money to pay outstanding allowances for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup,” he said.
The Chairperson of the House ad hoc committee had questioned the NFF’s ability to bankroll the Super Falcons’ campaign at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, which was held in France.
Not satisfied with the NFF’s response, Onu requested that the NFF give documentation detailing how the Super Falcons were funded for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, as well as a breakdown of match bonus payments and slips for the 23 players and coaching staff, by August 30, 2023.
According to the findings of the ad hoc committee on how the NFF is funded, the NFF President disclosed that they are normally supported by CAF and FIFA.
Furthermore, the NFF stated that it receives no support from the Federal Government for its employees and officials, instead receiving its operational costs from FIFA.
“The Confederation of African Football provides $250,000 per annum as a subvention fund”, said the NFF President.
