Nigerian Man Sets New Guinness World Record For Twerking

A Nigerian guy named Babajide Isreal Adebanjo has established a new Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest twerking duration.

Adebanjo accomplished this milestone in Lagos on January 14 by twerking for three hours and thirty minutes.

The Guinness World Records announced the achievement on their official website, stating, “This record attempt was personal to Babajide as it was a way for him to get out of his comfort zone and to raise awareness for anyone suffering from depression around the world.”

They added, “His message is that no record is too crazy, too big, too great, or too little to achieve. There is always space for everyone and their unique attributes,” highlighting the inclusivity of record attempts.

Elena Sofie Sterlini, an Austrian, set the previous record on January 3, 2023, when she twerked for two hours and one minute.

Sofie hoped to shatter the record as a personal triumph. Furthermore, on November 15, 2014, Big Freedia and Central City Festival in New Orleans, Louisiana, set the Guinness World Record for the most persons twerking simultaneously with 406. The Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard Merchants & Business Association staged the event, which promoted the area’s cultural traditions while also benefiting local companies and non-profits. Big Freedia led the record attempt.

Since June 2023, when Hilda Baci, the Nigerian Jollof Queen, established a new GWR for the longest cook-a-thon, many Nigerians have been encouraged to achieve or break world records in a variety of professions.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
