Personnel from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command successfully rescued a man who was trapped for nearly ten hours beneath debris after a three-storey building collapsed in the Life Camp area of Abuja on Saturday, August 2.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday, identifying the victim as 27-year-old Aliyu Salisu, a citizen of the Niger Republic.

He was quickly transported to Cedar Crest Hospital in Gudu, where he is currently undergoing treatment and showing positive progress.

According to the statement, the Command received a distress call at approximately 6:15 p.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2025, informing them of the building collapse.

The Divisional Police Officer of Life Camp Division promptly deployed a rescue team to the location, secured the perimeter, and initiated a coordinated search and rescue effort.

The operation included personnel from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Development Control Department of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), as well as staff from Zeberced and Julius Berger construction companies, assisted by multi-agency patrol and enforcement teams.

It was noted that at around 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 3, rescue teams successfully extracted the victim from the debris after a meticulous and challenging operation.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao Adewale, was present throughout the operation and praised the rapid response and professionalism of all agencies involved.

The Command also encouraged residents to stay vigilant and to report any emergencies or suspicious activities promptly.
