No Gree For Anybody’ Slang Could Breed Violence, Alexx Ekubo Caution Nigerians

Nigerian actor, Alexx Ekubo has warned that the “no gree for anybody” slogan could breed violence in the country.

The “no gree for anybody” catchphrase simply means “do not allow yourself to be bullied by anyone”.

It has become viral in Nigeria’s social media space since the beginning of the year.

In a post via his Instagram page on Monday, the actor described the slogan as “the same negativity that has stunted our progress”.

He also warned that the slang could “breed violence and foster revenge culture” among Nigerians.

The film star advised people to be kind and considerate because “everyone is fighting a battle”.

“I took time out to introspect. As I crawl out of my solemn place, I can see the same negativity and “gbas gbos” that has stunted our progress,” he wrote.

“Please what is “no gree for anybody” that I am seeing everywhere? It is breeding violence and fostering revenge culture.

“Instead, can we be more tolerable and considerate towards each other. Be kind, everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about.

“We are different people, raised under different circumstances, with different degrees of luck.

“Life will show us different variations of “shege”. Everyone has their unique experience with how the world works, do not expect everyone to think and act like you.”

In as much as we don’t want anyone pushing us around, we should also be careful not to escalate things so that it will not lead to violence.
