Obasanjo Praises Late Queen Elizabeth II, Speaks Of His Relationship With Her

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has praised late Queen Elizabeth II, describing her as a “perfect and great woman.”

Obasanjo said this during an interview with News Central TV on Monday, at his Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) Penthouse residence in Abeokuta, the Ogun capital.

He praised the late Commonwealth Head of State in a statement issued by spokesman Kehinde Akinyemi, hinting that he was about to graduate from secondary school when she first visited the country in 1956.

The former president expressed gratitude for the opportunity to host the Queen as a Nigerian President during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Abuja in 2003.

He said, “My relationship with the Queen was perfect. She was a great, great woman, who had shown great examples in human relationships.

“She carried herself so graciously, so dignified. She was somebody I have tremendous respect for.

“I join the rest of the world to mourn with her family, the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and the rest of the world.

“I also mourn with Prince Charles, who promised to continue from where she had stopped. May her soul rest in peace.”
