Olu Jacobs Is Alive – Joke Silva Dispels Husband’s Death Rumour

Joke Silva, a veteran Nollywood actress, has broken her silence on social media allegations that her husband, Olu Jacobs, has died.

Rumours concerning the death of the ace Nigerian actor and film executive, whose true name is Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, have surfaced on social media for the second time.

According to PMNEWS, his wife, Joke, denied the story, stating that “her husband is alive and doing just fine.”

Olu Jacobs, affectionately known as Uncle Olu by his colleagues and many admirers has built a name for himself in Nigeria’s film business.

With over 40 years of performing experience, Jacobs is regarded as a bridge between the old and new generations of actors.

Jacobs, who studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in England, is still regarded as one of Africa’s creative gifts to the world, having performed with numerous repertoire theatres in Britain and starring in foreign films.

In 2007, he received the African Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Lead Role. Olu Jacobs has established himself as a godfather in Nollywood, paving the way for many aspiring actors and actresses in the profession.

His passion for acting was sparked by the late great film director Hubert Ogunde’s annual concert gala at the Colonial Hotel in Kano.

Later, he moved to England to study acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London.

He has been characterised as ‘one of Nollywood’s finest actors, best role interpreter, and best word manipulator’.

At the 2013 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards, he received the Industry Merit Award for Outstanding Achievements in Performing for his five-decade dedication to his performing career.

In addition, he received the AMAA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016. Olu Jacobs is married to Joke Silva, a seasoned actress.

The pair formed and runs the Lufodo Group, a media company that includes film production, distribution assets, and the Lufodo Academy of Performing Arts.

In England, he studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London. In the 1970s, he starred in a number of British television episodes and series, including The Goodies, Till Death Do Us Part, Barlow at Large, The Venturers, Angels, 1990, The Tomorrow People, and The Professionals. In 1978, he played President Mageeba in Michael Codron’s production of Sir Tom Stoppard’s play Night and Day.

In the 1980s, Jacobs appeared in a number of international films, including John Irvin’s military drama The Dogs of military, Roman Polanski’s adventure comedy Pirates (1986), and the family adventure film Baby: Secret of the Lost Legend (1985). On television, he appeared in TVS’s The Witches and the Grinnygog.

Jacobs has since appeared in over 120 Nollywood films. He is regarded as one of the best Nigerian Nollywood actors.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
