Omotola Ekeinde, a Nollywood actress, has disclosed her earnings from the film A Mother’s Love.
She disclosed that the film made over N103 million at theaters while other producers only made N22 million in a video she posted online to give the public an overview of the events.
“Our last cinema run was on the 19th of April; it was a beautiful day. I had a nice time at the cinema, and it was my first time doing cinema runs. It was a challenge, but I rose to the challenge, I believe. You know, as a producer, you have to show up, and that was a challenge I wasn’t ready for.
Unfortunately, that week, I had to pull the movie out of the cinema because of pressing issues. I know I would do the movie a disservice if I left it in the cinemas, and I wouldn’t have the time to promote it or be there in the cinemas, as the culture was or is at this time.
At the end of our run, we had made a N103, 094, 633. After deduction from exhibitors, value-added tax VAT, entertainment tax, withholding tax, and every other thing. The money that was accrued to us as producers of Mother’s Love was N22 million. Ten per cent of that money, as promised by Red Hot, was donated to the NGO ” Slum to School”.
In the end, it’s clear that this is a loss rather than a gain. Taclx has taken everything, leaving the producers with very little profit or even just enough to cover their costs. It’s really not easy for the filmmakers; they go through so much—long hours, financial risks, and countless sacrifices—to bring movies to life. Despite the challenges, their passion for storytelling keeps them pushing forward, even when the odds are stacked against them.
