In today’s Gospel, the people of Jesus’ time do not see Jesus for who he is, and as the crowd grew bigger coming towards him, Jesus addressed them, this is a wicked generation, it is asking for a sign. The only sign it will be given is the sign of Jonah. That generation lacked the revelation and full knowledge of who Christ is. Christ’s generation had a sense of godliness whereas our generation has lost its conscience and moral consciousness. The generation of Jesus sought to follow Jesus closely, our generation prefers to follow the dictates and sentiments of men. If Jesus could say his generation is wicked then I am short of words to explain this to our generation.
We are called to open our eyes, ears, and hearts to the words of God and just as our savior mentioned, the only sign we need is the sign of Jonah. The sign of repentance. The sign of sincere conversion right from the heart. Once we can change as often as we should, things will start turning around for good. It is only God that can help us now if and only if we have a change of heart and mentality towards good. Once you are on the wrong road, the only way out is to turn around.
