The Osun State Police Command has summoned Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District, over his viral comment allegedly urging supporters to “kill” members of the Accord Party.
The invitation followed widespread outrage over remarks attributed to the All Progressives Congress (APC) senator during the party’s campaign in Ilesa on Tuesday.
In a letter dated August 11, 2026, the police asked Fadahunsi to appear before the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Osogbo to clarify the circumstances surrounding the comments.
“The invitation is premised on information in possession of the Nigeria Police alleging that during your address at the aforementioned programme, you made statements considered to be threatening, inciting and intimidating in nature, and the statement has already been in circulation on various electronic and social media platforms.”
The letter, signed by Samuel Etaifo Erale, Commissioner of Police, Elections in Osun State, directed the senator to report at the SCID by 11am on Wednesday, August 12.
The police action came after a video of Fadahunsi speaking in Yoruba during the APC campaign circulated widely on social media
In the video, the senator was heard telling APC supporters to kill members of the Accord Party if they encountered them during the electoral process. “From now on, whenever you see Accord members, kill them. I authorise you to kill them. They have wives and children too.”
The comments triggered backlash, with concerns raised over the potential impact of inflammatory political rhetoric ahead of the August 15 Osun governorship election.
Fadahunsi subsequently sought to clarify the remarks, with his team saying the statement was not a call for physical violence but a metaphorical appeal for voters to defeat the Accord Party at the polls.
In a statement titled “Kill Osun Accord with Votes, Not Violence,” the senator’s team said his remarks were intended to urge supporters to reject the party through lawful and democratic means.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Senator’s statement was purely political and metaphorical.”
The team further described the intended message as a call for APC supporters to “overwhelmingly reject the Accord Party at the ballot box through lawful, peaceful and democratic means.”
The controversy comes amid heightened political tension in Osun ahead of the governorship election.
The incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking re-election on the Accord platform, has repeatedly accused the APC of using thugs to attack and kill his supporters.
The police invitation places Fadahunsi’s comments under official scrutiny as authorities intensify efforts to prevent threats, intimidation and violence ahead of the election.
