Our prayers are with you’: Tinubu condoles with Ghana as helicopter crash kills two ministers, six others

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has condoled with Ghana over a fatal helicopter crash that killed eight Ghanaians, including two ministers.

The crash involved a Z-9 helicopter belonging to the Ghana Armed Forces, which lost contact during a flight from Accra, the capital, to Obuasi, a gold-mining town in the south of the country, on Wednesday.

Edward Boamah, Minister of Defence, and Ibrahim Mohammed, the Minister of Environment, were among the casualties.

Muniru Mohammed, acting deputy national security coordinator; Samuel Sarpong, vice chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and former Ashanti regional minister; Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate; Squadron Leader Peter Twum Ampadu, ⁠flying officer; and Ernest Addo, ⁠sergeant, were also aboard the ill-fated helicopter.

In a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to the president on information and strategy, Tinubu assured President John Mahama that the thoughts and prayers of Nigeria are with Ghana during this time of profound national loss.

“The President urges the Ghanaian nation and the bereaved families and friends to find comfort in the knowledge that their loved ones died in the line of patriotic service to the country,” the statement reads.

He prays for the peaceful repose of the souls of the departed and strength for those left behind.
