Police Nab Three Kidnappers Of Abducted Former INEC Staff it

Cross River Police Command officers rescued a former member of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, who had been kidnapped.

Mrs. Caroline Bassey was rescued at about 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2023, from her residence at Peter Ojie Street, Off Winners Way, Calabar.

According to reports, the shooters, who pretended to be customers looking to rent chairs from Mrs Bassey, tied up her security guard and placed him inside a refrigerator before one of the abductors drove away with the victim in her personal car.

The kidnappers’ luck ran out when an alarm for aid was raised.

A heroic Good Samaritan stopped the kidnappers as they drove out of her premises.

In an attempt to abandon their Camry vehicle, two of them hopped out and joined their colleagues in the victim’s car as they attempted to reverse after noticing the jam.

One of them was unsuccessful because a bold Good Samaritan knocked him down with his Toyota Hilux car, allowing neighbours and some youngsters to catch one of the kidnappers.

The victim was rescued after police intercepted the other two kidnappers along the Akamkpa axis.

According to the command’s spokesperson, Irene Ugbo, who confirmed the rescue, three individuals were apprehended during the operation, and two vehicles were retrieved.

According to the PPRO, the command’s Anti-Cultism and Kidnapping Squad, directed by SP Chukwuma Ogini, jumped into action after receiving a distress call about her kidnapping on Mathias Oje Avenue in Calabar Municipality.

Ugbo praised the bravery of Njangachang youths in the area who helped apprehend the offenders.

During the operation, the suspects possessed weapons, ammo, and charms.

She reaffirmed Commissioner Gyogon Grimah’s determination to rid the state of crimes and criminalities once more. “This is the resolve of the commissioner as directed by the Inspector General of Police,” she stated.
