Police Warn Against Planned Protest Over Kebbi Schoolgirls’ Abduction

The Kebbi State Police Command has voiced serious concern regarding intelligence reports suggesting that certain groups and non-governmental organisations are intending to organise a protest in the wake of the recent kidnapping of schoolgirls from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga.

In a statement released on Friday, November 21, the Command’s spokesperson, Nafiu Abubakar, advised the organisers to abandon the idea, explaining that the prevailing security situation in the state is “too fragile” for any form of public demonstration. The police warned that such assemblies might heighten tensions and potentially result in outbreaks of violence.

Although recognising the deep sorrow and anger felt by many over the abduction, the Command characterised the planned protest as “misguided and counterproductive,” maintaining that it might disrupt the sensitive rescue operations that are presently in progress to ensure the safe release of the abducted schoolgirls.

The police reiterated their dedication to protecting lives and property, emphasising that preserving peace and stability continues to be their primary objective. They called on members of the public to support the current operations by promptly reporting any suspicious movements or activities to the closest security outfit.

These worries arise just days after gunmen raided the school located in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, where they fatally shot the Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Makuku, prior to taking away numerous students. Eyewitnesses recounted that the assailants encountered no opposition, triggering extensive anxiety and grief throughout the area.

Makuku was said to have been shot while attempting to shield his students amid the assault. Since then, people in the community have held prayers for him, beseeching Allah to bestow mercy upon him and provide solace to his bereaved family following the heartbreaking incident.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
