Power in Thanksgiving

In our lives, the “curse of more” is self-compounding. It creates life demands, struggles, and worries. We forget, in the midst of our busyness and pressures, to just pause and be thankful for all that God has done and will continue to do. Soon enough — we expect more from God.

Giving thanks is scriptural, as seen with Noah and his family. Once the earth was dry after the flood, they were finally able to leave the ark. Noah’s first act was to build an altar to give thanks and worship God; and God was so pleased with the aroma of Noah’s prayers rising up to him, he swore to never again flood the earth. The rainbow signifies that promise.

Beyond giving God the glory and praise to which he is rightfully due, one of the greatest things about thankfulness is that it is a choice.

We can choose to be grateful. And the more we choose it, the easier it gets. The more we profess our gratitude for our blessings, the more we notice things to be grateful for.

Gratitude changes our attitudes and our actions. It changes how we live and it is contagious. Let us begin to thank God for all he has done and in faith, thank him in advance for all he is going to do in the days, weeks, months, and years to come — because there is tremendous power in Thanksgiving!
