Premier League Teams Want Man City Out

Published on

English Premier League teams reportedly want Manchester City to be thrown out of the league if they are found to have broken financial regulations in the past nine years.

The Premier League referred the Etihad club to a separate commission for an investigation into more than 100 suspected financial rule violations over nine years as well as five more recent incidents of the club’s failure to cooperate with the league’s initial investigation.

The majority of the breaches basically accuse the club of avoiding financial fair play, inflating sponsorship deals, and paying players and managers inappropriate amounts, with the majority of the breaches “in particular with respect to its revenue (including sponsorship revenue), its related parties and its operating costs.”

The club won the Premier League three times during that span in addition to three Carabao Cups and an FA Cup triumph.

The teams who had been pushing for action against City the most, according to the report, were some of the other “big six” clubs, which also include Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham.

In these conditions, the English Football League would not be required to accept City, according to a report, and the Premier League’s most severe sanction would be their expulsion.

If they are found guilty, they face a variety of penalties, including a simple fine, points reduction, the loss of trophies won during that period, and even expulsion from the Premier League.

According to sources, most clubs are lobbying for the latter, with many believing that retroactively taking away trophies previously won will have little effect.

“Many Premier League clubs want Manchester City to be kicked out of the division if they are found guilty of breaking rules over nine seasons”, Sky Sports reported.

However, they add, “Premier League clubs do not want to get involved in the process, which is in the hands of an independent commission.”

The decision might take years, and Manchester City is prepared to “robustly” defend itself against the allegations.

According to reports, Manchester City has asked well-known UK attorney Lord Pannick KC to defend them against claims of financial misconduct.
