Richarlison To Seek Therapy Over Off The Field Trouble

Following a ‘turbulent time’ off the pitch, Brazil forward Richarlison has stated he would seek ‘psychological therapy’ when he returns to Tottenham after the international break.

The Tottenham Hotspur striker was in tears after being replaced during Brazil’s 5-1 victory over Bolivia on Saturday.

Richarlison had a wonderful opportunity to score before being replaced. Later, the 26-year-old was spotted very distressed on the bench.

The former Everton striker was also taken off in the 64th minute of Brazil’s 1-0 triumph over Peru on Tuesday, bringing the international break to an end without a goal.

Richarlison, who has been criticized for his lack of goals at Tottenham, claimed after the game that he has been impacted by off-the-field events in which people interested in his money ‘walked away’ from him.

This, according to the striker, contributed to his emotional outburst against Bolivia in Belem, and he plans to seek ‘psychological therapy’ at Tottenham.

“I went through a turbulent time in the last five months off the field. Now things are right at home. People who only had an eye on my money walked away from me,” Richarlison told the Brazilian newspaper Globo.

“Now things will start to flow, I’m sure I’ll get a good run at Tottenham and make things happen again.

“That sad moment wasn’t even because I played poorly, in my opinion, I didn’t play a bad game in Belem, it was more of an outburst about the things that were happening off the field, which got out of control not on my part, but on the part of people who were close to me.

“I’m going to go back to England, seek psychological help, from a psychologist, to work on my mind. That’s it, come back stronger.

“I believe I will be in the next squad, I will work for that. It’s about getting a good streak at Tottenham, this week I’m going to sit down and talk to them, I need a good streak, get the rhythm of the game.”

Richarlison did not elaborate on the off-the-field concerns, but Globo claimed that the Brazilian had just parted ways with his long-term agent Renato Velasco, who had backed him since the beginning of his career.

Following the match against Bolivia, Brazil’s teammates rallied around Richarlison, with Matheus Cunha claiming that his family consoled the striker.

Richarlison, who has 20 goals in 45 outings for Brazil, has struggled since joining Tottenham for £60 million last season.

During his first season at Tottenham, the attacker scored three goals in 35 appearances across all competitions.

Richarlison has yet to score in four Premier League games this season, although he did do so in the Carabao Cup.
