ACCEPTING GOD’S INVITATION
Today’s Gospel shares Jesus’ parable of a generous man who invites many to a dinner, but most excuse themselves. The excuses vary—like buying a field or oxen—and the host replaces invitees with the poor and oppressed, aiming for a full house. Jesus’ message? God offers us faith and eternal life; we can accept or reject, with blessings or challenges.
Saint Paul reminds the Romans of their unique gifts from God—ministry, prophecy, teaching, mercy—and encourages them to love and serve others, especially those on the margins.
Bishop and Cardinal Charles promoted clergy and religious growth, helped author the catechism, and founded the CCD for children. He organized gatherings in Milan to promote the Council of Trent’s teachings and served the poor, even amid plagues and famines, living only 46 years. Jesus invites us to share in the Eucharist and serve those in need. As faithful women and men, let’s accept the call, live our vocations, and respond with a sincere “yes,” inspired by saints like Charles Borromeo, witnessing Christ’s love.
