Saint Luke, Evangelist – Feast

2 Timothy 4:10-17
Psalm 144(145):10-13a,17-18
Luke 10:1-9

Today we celebrate the Feast of St. Luke. Luke authored the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles. William Barclay calls Luke’s gospel the ‘loveliest in the world’. It shows Jesus breaks down barriers—for saint and sinner, Jew and Gentile—making it a universal message for all, including Samaritans, the poor, women, and outcasts. God’s love is for everyone, and that’s Good News!

In today’s gospel, Jesus appoints the seventy-two and sends them out in pairs to every town. They are told to carry little and be present—listen, notice, and bring Peace. Are we peacemakers?

Jesus calls us to build His kingdom, each with a unique perspective and gifts to foster Peace. Sometimes we overthink or cling to ideals; His call is to be present, see today’s ‘Crucified,’ and be God’s face and voice.

How has God called you? Who is He sending you with? Where is He calling you? What do you need to ‘shake off’ to respond?
