OBEYING GOD’S WILL IS KEY TO TRUE DISCIPLESHIP
The desire for belonging is a fundamental aspect of happiness and fulfillment, connecting us to friends, family, and communities. The safest and most enriching place to belong is in our families, especially those rooted in God’s love.
Today’s Gospel invites us to understand what it means to be in Jesus’ family. He declares, “Here are my mother and my brothers! Anyone who does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother, sister, and mother.” Jesus emphasizes two paths to belonging: his biological family and the family formed through obedience to God’s will.
This doesn’t reject his earthly family but elevates our relationship with God above all. Mary, his mother, exemplifies this perfectly with her faith: “Let it be done unto me according to your word” (Luke 1:38). She is the first disciple and a model for us all.
While we are saved by grace, we are called to live out that faith through obedience. Those who put God’s word into practice will find blessings and happiness. Mary embodies this obedience, guiding us to be devoted to God’s will (Luke 11:28).
Being a disciple means entering Jesus’ family and deepening our relationship with God. Our connection to God shapes all our human relationships. Ultimately, our belonging is determined by how we fulfill His will in our lives.
Let’s ask ourselves: Where do we truly belong? As Christians, we commit our loyalty to God. Do our actions reflect that commitment? Let’s stand firm in our faith and embrace the mission of spreading the Good News, empowered by God.
Lord God, inspire us to seek Your will and unite us as true members of Jesus’ family, growing in our ability to fulfill Your mission. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Have a blessed day!
