His Highness Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, the Emir of Zazzau, has urged parents to refrain from overspending on aso-ebi and wedding makeup in favor of using the money to support charitable and underprivileged organizations.
Speaking on Sunday at the 20th anniversary of the Crystal Muslim Organization (CMO) in Abuja, the emir warned that ignoring the impoverished leads to an increase in social vices and voiced concern about the extravagant lifestyle of some wealthy families despite the nation’s economic difficulties.
He said;
“You will see our people spending millions of Naira for just cosmetics if a girl is getting married… some cr@zy parents spend up to $10,000 for this makeup… or buy asoebi for half a million Naira, N200,000 or N300,000, which is totally unacceptable as far as I am concerned,”
“There are so many people on the streets that cannot even feed three square meals in a day… I have never invested a dime in buying asoebi or cosmetics for girls getting married.”
“We don’t need such things, given the current situation in the country,”
The current rate at which people invest in Aso-Ebi is truly astonishing. Many are willing to go to great lengths—sometimes even foregoing food or borrowing money—to afford these outfits. Makeup and other accessories follow the same trend, with individuals spending extra miles just for a single day celebration.
It raises questions about priorities and the true cost of societal expectations, reminding us that sometimes, simplicity and moderation can be more meaningful than extravagant displays.
