Seeking the lasting things in life

A story is told about a “man with a muck-rake” who worked hard, scraping up the trash at his feet and failing to notice the crown that hung above his head. It represents the vast majority of people on the planet. They are wearing out their lives collecting garbage from the ground, not considering the heavenly treasures, the divine and imperishable gifts, which they could have with half the effort and care!

We should not waste our lives picking up trash that we cannot carry beyond the grave! If we are wise, we will seek out long-lasting treasures and riches to take with us into eternity! We will always have whatever we build into our character! We save the money we spend doing good in Christ’s name as a safe and secure treasure in heaven. All genuine service to Christ accumulates rewards for us in the future.

Jesus rightly said in John 6:27 TPT… “Why would you strive for food that is perishable and not be passionate to seek the food of eternal life, which never spoils? I, the Son of Man, am ready to give you what matters most, for God the Father has destined me for this purpose.”*

We need to be reminded throughout the week of the unsatisfying nature of the things of this world and be driven to seek the lasting things in life.
