Six teenagers were reportedly apprehended by members of the Bayelsa State Police Command’s State Anti-Kidnapping Squad at the Bayelsa State Government’s Internally Displaced Camp at Ox-Bow Lake in Yenagoa, the state capital.
The teenagers, who are between the ages of 14 and 16, were detained on suspicion of participating in sodomy acts.
They were picked up after camp residents reported them to the IDP Coordinator, Hon. Koku Obiyah Ebiowo, a member of the State House of Assembly.
The teenage boys were reportedly from the camp for displaced Cameroonians near the submerged section of the Azikoro road.
Anisim Buswat, a spokesman for the Bayelsa police, confirmed the arrest and stated that since the alleged perpetrators were minors, they would be released to their parents while a covert investigation would be conducted to determine whether an adult may have had some influence in the incident.
