Strangers Flogging Children: Is It Acceptable Or Lawless?

Today on ” Your View,” they discussed a thought-provoking issue that has sparked many debates: Is a stranger entitled to flog your child?

Recently, a viral video showed a youth leader in Delta State flogging students who were not in school during school hours. Instead of taking the children to their school or reporting them to the authorities, he took matters into his own hands by physically punishing them right on the street.
This raises important questions:

Should strangers have the right to discipline children they see misbehaving?

Is such physical punishment acceptable in our society?

What are the potential consequences of taking law into one’s own hands?

Personally, I believe that discipline should be handled appropriately—by involving the school authorities or parents, not through violence by strangers. If a child is misbehaving or skipping school, the right approach is to report the incident to the proper authorities who can manage the situation
professionally.

Flogging a child without knowing their health condition or background could lead to unintended harm or even tragedy.

Furthermore, how would the community react if the child were to fall and get injured during such punishment? Would the villagers still support such actions, or would they distance themselves?

Many parents believe that strangers are allowed to train or discipline their children, including flogging, as a form of upbringing. But is this really acceptable? Or does it cross the line into lawlessness and abuse?

I want to hear your honest thoughts. Should strangers be allowed to flog children? Or should discipline be left to parents and official authorities? Share your perspective—your opinion matters!
