“They Threw 133 Million Nigerians Into Poverty After Promising To Pull 100 Million Out” – Senator Shehu Sani

Senator Shehu Sani, a former federal lawmaker, has made fun of the All Progressives Congress-led administration over a National Bureau of Statistics report that claims 133 million Nigerians are multidimensionally poor.

The National Bureau of Statistics had reported that 133 million Nigerians remain multidimensionally poor, despite the federal government’s aim to elevate 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in ten years.

According to the NBS, a lack of access to security, employment, living standards, health care, and education is what causes poverty.

Additionally, it showed that 35% of the poor, or around 47 million people, reside in the South while 65%, or 86 million people, reside in the North.

Following the report, Senator Sani took to his verified Twitter account to highlight how the promise to pull millions of people out of poverty has actually gone in the other direction.

He said, “They promised to lift one hundred million people out of poverty; now they have officially thrown one hundred and thirty-three million people into deeper poverty.”
