Woe! Woe!! Woe!!! There are so many woes in this chapter and our Lord Jesus must have been a thorn in the flesh of the Pharisees and scribes. No wonder they wanted to kill him by all means possible. The Lord Jesu in today’s Gospel exposes their corruption to the extent that he told them that since they were the sons of those who murdered the prophets they could as well finish the evil deeds their fathers began.
It is better to be on the Lord’s side than to dwell under the shadows of the wicked. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in the princes of this sinful world. John the Baptist died for speaking the truth. The Lord is the Way, the Truth, and the Messiah that offers Eternal Life and yet he was persecuted and killed for speaking the truth.
We only have one life to live. Now is the time for us to speak the truth and do what is right. Our life depends on God’s word and Him alone. Remember, anyone who follows Him will have the light of life even though he is persecuted and will live in the presence of the Lord forever. Always stand firm in the truth and live in peace and happiness for the rest of your life.
Lord Jesus we all have our issues and we have failed one way or another Help us to realize our pretence and hypocrisy and to replace them with transparency and honesty. By your grace may we be clean from inside and outside for cleanliness is next to godliness. May we stand for the truth for the rest of our lives. Amen.
